"...Since then, the position of Lord Protector has been inherited by the best defender in each generation. Status was not a consideration. Only the best shield that could protect the empire more firmly than anyone else….”

The teacher stopped talking abruptly and put her index finger to her lips.

The students, who had been diligently taking notes, sensed something strange.

"Pfft!"

"Kick!"

They soon discovered a male student sleeping in the back row.

If it had been an ordinary student, they might not have been able to see him well because he was in the back. However, he was a head taller than the others, so it seemed as if even his snoring was dynamic.

"As your teacher, it's my duty to give my full effort during class time. And as students, it's your duty to stay focused, is it not?"

*―Nod, Nod*

"Then I should rightfully call out that student for dozing off, yes?"

Of course, yes. That's what they would reflexively answer.

But looking at the male student, they also had the thought, 'Is that okay?'

The chorus of muscles that couldn't be hidden even by his loose uniform.

An aura that made no one dare to approach him recklessly.

This was because the most promising rookie among the new students was this student.

*—Shh-shh!*

A translucent piece of ice was created in the teacher's hand — she had a Cryokinesis ability.

And judging by the speed at which her ability manifested, she was quite skilled.

"Hmm, just in case he gets hurt."

This time, instead of ice, she created a snowball.

This should be just right. The teacher, who smiled, took aim at the male student; the students scattered in all directions, and after a while, a snowball flew out of season.

Its speed was incredible, and in an instant, it arrived in front of the sleeping male student.

Perhaps if it went like this, it would hit him right in the middle of his forehead, covering his face in snow…

*—Fwshh!*

...Or not.

“Are you awake now, student Deus?”

"...My apologies, teacher. I'll pay attention."

In the midst of sleep, Deus reacted in 0.01 seconds to dispel the snowball.

Melted water dripped from between his hands.

Seeing that, the teacher just smiled, 'As expected of a promising rookie!'

"Now then, let's continue. The current Lord Protector's role is..."

The students who were focusing on the lecture sneakily looked at Deus.

It was peculiar — the fact that he seemed around their age, yet had such a physique.

Peculiar again how he caught a snowball they could barely perceive.

'As expected, the most promising rookie is different.'

'Wow... is that really a human being like me?'

'Oh my god. Look at those thick biceps. I want to hang on them!'

Regardless of gender, alone or in pairs, they kept sneaking peeks.

Deus had to rub his cheeks, feeling self-conscious.

'Why are you looking at me like that? It's burdensome.'

Was it because he dozed off? Yeah, that must be it.

Honestly, even he found it laughable — falling asleep during class.

Maybe the spring breeze coming through the window had lulled him to sleep.

Or perhaps it was because the tension he had been feeling until recently had been released.

In the early days of transmigration, his body was always taut with anxiety!

Muscles coiled, ready to explosively burst forth at any moment!

An overwhelming will to break through everything with brute force!

...But upon reflection, there was nowhere to channel those things.

When did he first realize something was amiss?

Yeah, it was two weeks after he threw his desperate declaration to survive.

The world he faced. The unfamiliar place names he heard.

The names he had never seen before.

No matter how he thought about it, it wasn't the novel 《Gate Opening on the First Day of the Mercenary Corps》

It was a completely different world. And it was a completely different novel.

Yes, he had foolishly mistaken the transmigration genre itself.

All morning classes were over. It was now noon. It's lunchtime.

No, to rephrase that, it was not lunchtime, but rather war time.

"The bell rang! Hey! Run quickly!”

* Boom! Boom!*

The sound of students thundering through the hallway at an alarming speed echoed through the halls.

"Dammit, those bastards! They only get excited for this kind of stuff!"

“Please, can't you at least maintain your dignity as a noble?”

"The teachers said no running in the hallway!!"

This was a place where those with special abilities resided.

Unlike ordinary humans, be they commoners or nobles, they were tinged with extraordinariness.

Which leads them to act a bit...peculiarly. Or strangely.

Just like right now — it might seem they're risking their lives for lunch, but the truth is, it's also about showing off their powers and skill in wielding them.

A sense of superiority that they are different from others. A desire to show it off.

Everyone here is special, but the best among them is me!

KWAKWANG!

"That brat barged through the wall again!"

"No! This dust! It's really not okay to do this while we're eating!”

“Who is it! Who dares to make a ruckus in this sacred cafeteria!!”

One scrawny yet fierce-looking teacher bellowed.

Then, the students who blasted through the wall didn't flee, but obediently confess instead; they knew fleeing was futile against a teacher who also wields abilities the same as them.

"You lot again?! Unacceptable. 3,000 sit-ups each!"

"Yes, sir!!"

An absurd number for ordinary people. But for them, it'll take 10 minutes tops.

*―Papapapapapa!*

Looking at the students moving like crazy machines.

“Sigh.”

It was really annoying, really annoying. Deus couldn’t help but let out a sigh.

As mentioned, this wasn't the world of the novel 《Gate Opening on the First Day of the Mercenary Corps》he had expected.

So then what kind of novel did he mistake this for?

To this question, sadly, it was very ambiguous to answer.

The setting itself was fantasy, with people using special 'abilities.'

There really were gates that opened, unleashing monsters.

And yet it's a jumble of fantasy, martial arts, rom-com, slice-of-life, comedy and who knows what else genres.

'And why the heck did they throw in some Korean elements too? No, why is there even kimchi in this fantasy world? Nobles drink soju instead of wine, commoners have makgeolli instead of beer?'

The lunch menu today is a good example.

"Pork should be stir-fried without broth, right!”

“What are you talking about?! How can you eat pork without broth?!”

"Ughhh, what a deplorable reality! This is why commoners are commoners! How dare you eat pork over rice like bibimbap! It's unforgivable! It's a rebellion!!”

"Tsk, you pretentious nobles. Please choke on your dry-fried stuff without any seasoning!”

That's the situation. Blonde wallflowers were arguing over stir-fried pork. And they were even having serious debates about impure ideologies while sitting down!

'Did I really read some nonsensical novel like this before? When?!'

For a while after officially transmigrating, he racked his brain over it. But now he's given up and was just living as a possessor, as Deus.

If so, why was he even told to set Oaths in the first place? With one unanswered question remaining, he pondered.

But still, shouldn't there be soup with pork? he thought, amidst the chaos…

"Junior Deus?"

When a female student approached, folding her fan with a loud flap.

Her violet hair gives off a mystical aura; her long, straight legs were impressive.

"Why are you standing in line here? I clearly told you that you would have the privilege of eating lunch comfortably.”

“Thank you for your offer, but I like it this way. President.”

*Tsk!*

The girl clicks her tongue, causing Deus to sigh; he then quickly corrected his honorific after apologizing for the mistake.

"My apologies, Madam President."

"Be careful in the future, junior. I was going to give you a warning, but I'll let you off this time because I recognize that you're a promising junior. Hoohoo!”

"...Thank you."

“You should be grateful! The student council president is going out of her way for you!”

Ohohohoh!

That rather ominous laughter belonged to the student council president of the Ability Academy, ' Cradle' — Nephthys, a 3rd-year honors student and Wind ability user.

Moreover, outside, she was also the precious youngest daughter of the Duke of Marheim.

She was a genius who had already demonstrated outstanding ability even compared her second-year seniors when she entered the school.

As time passed and she reached her third year, through sheer skill rather than status, she secured the position of student council president.

Truly a genius, an elite without equal — an upperclassman the words ‘genius’ and ‘elite without equal’ don't do justice...yet,

"Aren't you honored? You should be! To have me, of all people, extend such kindness! Ohohohoh!"

"Y-Yes, of course."

From Deus' perspective, she was just an upperclassman with a rather odd way of laughing. Nothing more, nothing less.

"Anyway! If you change your mind, come to the student council room anytime. It'll always be open for our promising junior!”

*Snap!*

Nephthys unfolded the fan she had folded with a thud and shook it flirtatiously; then with an elegant gait, she took her leave, saying they'll meet again soon.

".............."

Watching her disappear down the hallway, Deus counted numbers in his head.

'One. Two. Three.'

"Eeek!"

With a short yelp, Nephthys tripped and fell.

There were no pebbles in the hallway, nor did she collide with anyone.

She simply tripped over her own feet and fell.

"Madam President?!"

"Are you alright?!"

"Ah, ahahaha! I'm fine, I'm fine! Hmm, the hallway seems a tad slippery! I'll have to ask the cleaners to take care of that! Ohohohoh!"

"It didn't look that slippery though..."

Even afterwards, before leaving his line of sight:

"Kyyah!"

"Hieek!"

"Eeek!!"

Nephthys tripped and fell another three times.

'She's the student council president? A third-year honors student?'

He couldn't help but cover his face. Could this be some sort of comedy as the main genre?

"I think I'm going insane..."

He muttered to himself, but then someone suddenly poked him in the back.

Curious, he turned his head and saw a cherry blossom-colored head.

".............."

"What."

“That, that too. I, I don't think it's bad.”

What is this girl on about, saying stuff like that out of the blue?

Deus quietly turned his gaze towards the pink-haired girl.

Since she was a short girl, he had to lower his head as much as possible.

"What did you just say?"

"Um, lunch."

"Lunch?"

"Wasn't that, about going out, for lunch...?"

I feel like I'm going to go crazy. Go out and eat lunch. A strange situation that can be done.

Wasn't this a fantasy world? Deus covered his face again.
